Tour Part Four

One of the Longest Canadian Battles of World War 11 was fought by Our Navy & Our Merchant Seamen to ensure that the Germans never cut the vital flow of Armaments & Food from North America to Britain. It became of even greater importance in 1941 when Germany invaded Russia & the Navy & our Merchant ships had to extend their convoys into the Frozen waters of the Arctic. In those Arctic waters; Canada’s seamen had to constantly battle the ice, which built up on the ships & threatened the very safety of vessel & crew alike. Enemy submarines; Nazi bombers; icy waters that froze on ship structures, all combined to impose terrible strain on the Canadian crews.
