The Problem of Rats

A WWI trench rodent ranger proudly displays his harvest of rats. With him in the photo is his trusted terrier. Cats will corner rats but then play with them instead of killing them quickly and moving on to the next victim without delay. Terriers are professional killers….they immediately kill their victims and resume the chase without delay.                             

One fact about rats which trench commanders have to bear in mind is Two rats can reproduce directly giving birth to 30 to 100+babies per year.  However,      Because their offspring reach breeding age in just a matter of weeks, the original pair can be responsible for 1,250 to to over15,000 total descendants in a single year through exponential growth.
