Kilt Apron with Leather button

Khaki Kilt Apron with Leather button, pleated pocket. On the rear is marked "486" and "TAAFE" (?) This apron may have belonged to Lt. F.F. Taaffe who served in the 72nd Battalion, CEF from 27 September, 1917 to 30 October 1917 when he fell sick. He was also wounded in the knee. CEF service file attached. Kilt Aprons (covers) were worn by Highland regiments on active service. Not only did the apron protect the kilt but it also made the kilt less conspicous in the field. It is a brown canvas apron with tape tie in a seam at the top, a single button flap pocket in the centre (actng as a sporran).
