72nd BATTALION CEF, SH of C

72e BATAILLON CEF, SH de C

Seaforth Kilt Apron, 72nd Bn CEF

Kilt apron, wrap-around, 1916 issued in France. The label states: "Aprons, Kilt Medium / Bear Bros. / 1917" 687641 Private Lorne Percy Wilson of the 72nd Batalion, CEF arrived in France on 11 May, 1917 and became severely sick on 27 September, 1917. He originally enlisted in the 172nd Battalion CEF and had previously served in the 102nd Regiment, The Rocky Mountain Rangers. Kilt Aprons (covers) were worn by Highland regiments on active service. Not only did the apron protect the kilt but it also made the kilt less conspicous in the field. It is a brown canvas apron with tape tie in a seam at the top, a single button flap pocket in the centre (actng as a sporran).
