FOUNDATIONS OF THE 72nd REGIMENT, 1910-1914
Fondation du 72e régiment, 1910-1914
72nd Regt Officer's red sash
White Seaforth 72nd Regiment / Highlanders of Canada Officer's red thin sash.
From Rob MacDonald: "These white 'drill jackets' (aka 'Fatigue jackets' or - in the cavalry and RHA; 'stable jackets', but officially known as 'sleeved waistcoats') were in use from around the Peninsular War until the Great War. Our lot used them 1910-1914, and then the cadets used them after that - see the photo of Admiral Tojo inspecting the 72nd in 1911 - there is an officer to the left wearing this pattern with scarlet sash and the India Medal. The Seaforth are possibly unique among the Canadian highland regiments in that we always had the proper kit in sufficient numbers - or we used to....... "
With the sash is an Officer's white shell tunic and an India Medal with the bars: "Punjab Frontier, 1897-98" and "Tirah, 1897-98". It is not known if the sash belongs to the jacket and according to Rob MacDonald, the medal is a replica.
