WW II German M34 Fur Covered Pack (Tornister), 1940 These packs were more common during the early years of the war and were not usually worn into battle. They have a large main compartment with three straps that can be unbuckled to open out the pocket, a further pocket for a mess tin, and another on the underside of the lid. The cover of the lid is finished with cowhide. This cowhide-covered rucksack was later fitted with new style straps in 1939. As the war progressed the design was simplified for economical and practical reasons so the cowhide cover was eliminated making these packs especially scarce on today’s collector market.
