Brass button (cleaning) stick

Brass button stick. Slot with hole at closed end to clean button without taking them off the tunic. Poorly made as rounded end of slot is jagged due to poor stamping. Brass button stick is from Small Kit bag (1975I.023.004a) marked in black "M & D" (Militia and Defence) 1914 and on the other side "J. J. TURNER & SONS MANUFACTURERS PETERBOROUGH ONT." J.J. Turner & Sons re-located to George Street, Peterborough from Port Hope in 1887 and went on to become what could have been the largest manufacturer of sails, tents and awnings in Canada. The company had various workshops, including a blacksmith shop and carpentry shop which were located on site.
