FOUNDATIONS OF THE 72nd REGIMENT, 1910-1914
Fondation du 72e régiment, 1910-1914
72nd Regt resting at Camp Vernon or Sidney Camp, 1913-14
72nd Regt at Camp Vernon or Sidney (Sydney) Camp, 1913. The photo shows Seaforths and other soldiers (possibly the 88th Victoria Fusiliers) resting and sitting dressed in jackets, shirts, fatigue trousers and glengarries.
Caption on page: "Officers at Manouvres"
*** It may also be on Vancouver Island during the Coal miner's strike, 1913-14.
From the Regimental History, page 11:
"At the end of May, 1913, the Seaforths joined other regiments at the training camp at Vernon, B. C. This was said to be the largest military camp held in the province up to that time, there being about 1500 men present, including cavalry. Colonel Roy, D. O. S., was the inspecting officer, and some very good work was done."
From the Regimental History, page 10:
From June 26th till July 1st [1913], the regiment was in training, with other regiments, at Sydney[sic Sidney], Vancouver Island. During this period they were inspected by Gen. Sir Ian Hamilton.
