"Guard of Honour" for Lt Col Blair, 25 August 1929
"Guard [or "field"] of Honour" for Lieutenant Colonel R.M. Blair on his return from Bisley on 25 August, 1929. At one time it hung in the hall. NOTE: It is not confirmed if one or both of the attached photos is the correct one. Associated to Magazine 1986.015.001.
From the Regimental History, page 30:
"Lt-Col. R. M. Blair made history at Bisley by being the first man in seventy years to win both the King's Prize and the Grand Aggregate. The regiment, the city, indeed all Canadians were tremendously proud of his accomplishment and on his return in August he was given a huge welcome. Later that day a civic banquet was given in his honour followed by a dance given by the regiment. Special permission was given for the free issue to the Seaforth Officers' Mess of the rifle with which he won the Bisley match, and the new rifle range was named in his honour the following year. It was a glorious welcome home for a greatly admired officer."
