Button Stick (for polishing buttons)

Button card (stick) for polishing buttons on a uniform so as to protect the uniform. Possibly WW II? Appears to be made of a red fibreboard rather than the usual brass. TAG FOUND LOOSE IN A BOX AND NOT NEAR ANY SUCH ITEM. A button stick is a strip of metal or wood slotted in such a way that it will pass over a row of buttons (as on a military tunic) allowing each button to appear through a slit so that the buttons may be polished without soiling the cloth.
