Kilt Apron - D Coy, 72nd Bn
Kilt Apron - [13 Platoon] D Company, 72nd Battalion, CEF, 1916 at Bramshott, England. In blue ink, there are drawings and text: "72nd Seaforth Highlanders / Bramshott / D Coy / 13 Platoon" There are drawings of thistles, a maple leaf in the bottom corners and an Other Ranks cap badge of the 72nd Regiment, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada.
It was commanded at this time by Lt Ormond Thomas Blair. He arrived in France with the original contingent of the 72nd Battalion on 13 August 1916. He was killed in action on 12 November 1916.
Kilt Aprons (covers) were worn by Highland regiments on active service. Not only did the apron protect the kilt but it also made the kilt less conspicuous in the field. It is a brown canvas apron with tape tie in a seam at the top, a single button flap pocket in the centre (acting as a sporran).
