Seaforth ("61") BHQ Sign

Sign, Tactical , Unit sign "61" and "BHQ" This sign was used overseas in WW II by the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada to mark Battalion Headquarters. Circa 1940-1945. It was possibly made by CQMS Stan Wellburn who was a pre-war Seaforth and a sign maker by trade. In May 1940, orders appeared in the overseas forces that stated the following: "The sign selected for the 1 Cdn. Div is a gold maple leaf on a red rectangle ... " The green background signified the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade of the 1st Division. The "61" signified the Seaforths. The PPCLI was"60" and the Loyal Edmonton Regiment was "62".
