SEAFORTHS IN WORLD WAR II

SEAFORTHS PENDANT LA DEUXIÈME GUERRE MONDIALE

Major Robert L. McDougall
Major Robert L. McDougall

Major Robert L. McDougall served in the Seaforths from 20 November, 1942 to 25.September, 1945. He was wounded in Sicily on 27 July, 1943. He was mentioned in Despatches. McDougall wrote "A Narrative of War: From the Beaches of Sicily to the Hitler Line with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, 1943-1944". McDougall writes from the base of his own experiences, as an officer in the battalion in the Second World War. Born in North Vancouver, BC, McDougall went overseas with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in 1941, and fought in Sicily and Italy in 1943 and 1944. Fifteen years later, in 1960, he was asked to write an official history of the Seaforths in WW II. Family tragedy cut the project short, just as the narrative had completed the battle for the Hitler Line in central Italy. Dr. Reginald Roy completed the Regimental History project.
