Army winter peaked cap, 1950s

Peaked, winter wool cap, circa 1950's. The Cap, Peaked, Winter came into service about 1950 and was usually worn with Battledress in cold weather. Printed in black ink onto white label that is sewn to inside crown of cap. BUFFALO CAP AND NECKWEAR LTD. CAP, PEAKED, WINTER 1955 SIZE - 7 CONFIRM DESCRIPTION This is a Canadian Army winter peaked cap made from olive drab wool. The cap includes a leather chinstrap attached to the front by side buttons embossed with the Canadian Army insignia. The Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC) was a non-combatant branch of the Canadian Army for women established during the Second World War to release men from those non-combatant roles. Most women served in Canada but some served overseas, most in roles such as secretaries, mechanics, cooks and so on. The CWAC was finally abolished as a separate corps in 1964 when women were fully integrated into the Canadian Armed Forces. The Cap Khaki serge 'ski cap', features stiffened peak made of same material as body of cap, and false 'ear flaps' sewn around rear & sides of cap. The front, above the peak and to front of cap body is an inverted panel of serge material, sewn only at the apex of the top. A brown leather adjustable chinstrap is attached by two small brown plastic buttons, each with the maple leaf emblem and the title, 'Canada' to the uppermost portion. Insidethe, cap features a drop down serge panel, intended for use to fold over the ears in cold weather. A transparent protective plastic cover is sewn to the crown, covering the white stores label.
