The King's Guard at Ballater Castle, 1951 (Imperials)

The King's Guard of the 1st Battalion, The Seaforth Highlanders at Balmoral Castle, Ballater, Scotland, August 1951 (Imperials). On rear: "Regimental Property 001229 decal" From June 1951 to April 1952 the Seaforths were stationed at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh after returning from Malaya. The Regiment also provided Guards of Honour and ceremonial contingents for the Proclamation of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the funeral HM King George VI. They were transferred to Spey Barracks, Buxtehude, Germany in April 1951. Ballater is a burgh in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on the River Dee, immediately east of the Cairngorm Mountains. Situated at an elevation of 213 m (700 ft), Ballater is a centre for hikers. Balmoral Castle, the British Royal Family's holiday home, lies approximately 12 km west, and the family has visited the town frequently since the time of Queen Victoria. Birkhall lies about 2 km south-west of Ballater. The Victoria Barracks is used by the Royal Guard for the castle.
