FOUNDATIONS OF THE 72nd REGIMENT, 1910-1914

Fondation du 72e régiment, 1910-1914

72nd Regt, Seaforths with a Maxim MG on a wheeled carriage, July 1913

72nd Regiment, Seaforth Highlanders showing a Maxim machine gun on a wheeled carriage, July 1913. Captain "Maxim" Williams is the officer standing on the left. There are two officers on horseback in the background. The photo is likely taken at Sidney Camp or possibly near Nanaimo when the Seaforth was part of the Civil Aid Force during the coal miner strike of 1912-14. See Photo 1985.015.002.188 Caption on back: "Don't think I was catching flies. I had just told someone to stand back. The mosquitoes were thick, we got nearly eaten up by them, no protection for our legs don't you know!" (Appears to be written by man crouching to viewer's left of the gun.) On front is caption: "In action - Vancouver Island, BC 1913 72nd Seaforth Highlanders". "Order No. 61. - 72nd Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. Regimental Order by Lt. Col. R. G. Edwards Leckie, Commanding. Extract from District Order M.D. No.11, order No. 117 / 72nd Seaforth Highlanders of Canada," to be provisional Lieutenant (Supernumerary) Edward Mostyn Wynn Williams gentleman, 24th April 1912."
