Seaforth Highlanders Marching (Going) to the Review

Seaforth Highlanders Marching (Going) to the Review. Two officers on horseback and troops marching on foot in Scarlets. Painted by Harry Payne. (Imperial) Tuck # 9885 This postcard is believed to be the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders at Shorncliffe, Fort George or Edinburgh. Harry Payne (1858–1927) was an English military artist. With his brother, Arthur C. Payne, he produced many series of oilette postcards for Raphael Tuck & Sons and also did extensive work for Gale and Polden producing illustrations for their postcard series along with other military artists including Edgar Alfred Holloway, John McNeill, and Ernest Ibbetson. Raphael Tuck & Sons was a business started by Raphael Tuck and his wife in Bishopsgate in London on October 1866, selling pictures and greeting cards, and eventually selling postcards, the latter being the most successful. Their business was one of the most well known in the 'postcard boom' of the late 1800s and early 1900s.
