2e BATAILLON (RÉSERVE) ET DÉFENSE CIVILE, 1939-1945

Retirement dinner for Col Leslie hosted by the Sergeants Mess, 17 August, 1943

Retirement dinner for Lt Col T.S. Leslie, ED hosted by the Sergeants Mess of the XI Militia District on 17 August, 1943. The NCOS are from all branches with a few 2nd Battalion soldiers. The majority of the troops are wearing summer khaki tunics and trousers. On the rear of the photo is a full list of handwritten names on reverse. CONFIRM AND TRANSCRIBE NAMES Lt Col Thomas Soga Leslie, ED was veteran of the Great War and the inter-war year Seaforths. He was the Commanding Officer from 1 October, 1938 to 1 September, 1939. He was 56 years old and deemed too old to command the battalion in wartime. Thus, command of the overseas battalion fell to Lt-Col. J. B. Stevenson, ED. Leslie assumed command of the Regimental Depot.
