Cap Badge - 4th Regiment, New Zealand Rifles

Cap Badge - 4th New Zealand (Otago Rifles) Regiment. This badge was sold by Jim Purdy for $75.00 on e-Bay in the Spring/Summer of 2017. This badge was deemed irrelevant to the museum. The money was used to purchase relevant badges for the collection. This may be a collar badge or an early version without the "South Africa 1899 - 1902" scroll. The hat badge is 40 mm wide by 32 mm high and the collar badge is 30 mm wide by 25 mm high. It is normally brass but bronze versions are out there but less common. Badge: The badge depicts a kiwi and (open) fern leaves as symbols of New Zealand. The unit was formed in 1911 to 1921 from Volunteer units in Dunedin and later became 10th North Otago, earlier battle honours from Boer War 1899 - 1902, The 4th was at Gallipoli and France WW I.
