Cap Badge - West African Regiment

Cap Badge - West African Regiment This badge was sold by Jim Purdy for $30.00 on e-Bay in the Spring/Summer of 2017. This badge was deemed irrelevant to the museum. The money was used to purchase relevant badges for the collection. The West African Regiment was raised in 1889 as a single-battalion regiment at Sierra Leone, West Africa for the defence of Freetown, a major British naval base. The regiment served with great distinction at Sierra Leone 1898, Ashanti 1900, and in Duala in the Cameroons 1914 to 1916. The colony of Sierra Leone also provided a battalion of the Royal West African Frontier Force, a body responsible to the Colonial Office for garrisoning the British West African colonies. It was disbanded on the August 1, 1928.
