Cap Badge - The North Nova Scotia Highlanders
This version was made in Canada. The British made badge had Highlanders abbreviated to "High'rs"
Badge: Cross of St. Andrew, with the Coat of Arms of the Province of Nova Scotia (Argent, on a saltire azure an escutcheon of the Royal Arms of Scotland) in the center. Encircling the arms, an annulus inscribed on the upper curve with the motto "SIOL NA FEAR FEARAIL" (Breed of Manly Men), and on the lower curve with the designation "Nova Scotia Highlanders".
Officers and Regimental Sergeant-Majors: The Coat of Arms of Nova Scotia in silver with the saltire in blue enamel, the Royal Arms of Scotland in gilt and the remainder of the badge in silver.
The North Nova Scotia Highlanders was an infantry regiment of the Canadian Army. Founded in 1936 as The North Nova Scotia Highlanders (M.G.) by the amalgamation of the Cumberland Highlanders, The Colchester and Hants Rifles, and 'C' Company, 6th Machine Gun Battalion, it acquired this title in 1941. The regiment landed on Juno beach on D-Day.
In 1954, as a result of the Kennedy Report on the Reserve Army, this regiment was amalgamated with The Cape Breton Highlanders and The Pictou Highlanders to form 1st Battalion, The Nova Scotia Highlanders.
