SEAFORTHS RETURN TO CANADA, 1945

LE RETOUR DES SEAFORTHS AU CANADA, 1945

Major N. Dawson, Lt R.W.W. Salter, Montreal

Major N.C. Dawson, MC (left) and Lt R.W.W. Salter, Montreal, 1945 Major Dawson served in the Seaforths from August 1945 to 25.September, 1945. It appears that he may have served in another unit and transferred to the Seaforths fro the Pacific Force. Lt R.W.W. Salter served in the Seaforths from 20 November, 1944 to 25 September, 1945. He was wounded in Italy on 16 September, 1944. At the end of the war in Europe, Seaforths began to volunteer for the Canadian Army Pacific Force, a formation being organized in Canada designed to fight with Allied forces against the Japanese. Commanded by a former Seaforth, Major-General B. M. Hoffmeister, the C.A.P.F. attracted a fair number of veterans from the battalion who, as it turned out, never served in the Far East as the Empire of Japan surrendered before the Canadian formation left Canada. The first of several C.A.P.F. drafts left the unit on 6 June under the command of Major S. Lynch, MC, and by the end of the month about one hundred all ranks had volunteered for this service.
