CONFIRM WITH PHOTO
From the Regimental History (page 356): When Lt-Col. Bell-Irving returned to the unit with the information about the attack, he met his officers in a church at San Martorano, located some 500 yards east of the Savio. From its tower one had a good view of the area to be attacked, but it also drew enemy fire as it was a logical place for an observation post. So close was it that the Germans periodically laced it with machine-gun fire. However, the advantage it offered was to some extent offset by the risks involved. The Seaforths were to attack with "B" Company on the right and "D" Company on the left on either side of the Princess Patricias' toehold over the river.
