NATO Stabilization Force (SFOR) patch
NATO Stabilization Force (SFOR) shoulder patch. It is blue and white with black border. "SFOR" is written vertically in both Roman and Cyrillic script. In black felt pen ink on back "Corporal Costa D J 758 Seaforth Highlanders". Corporal David Costa was a Seaforth who served in Bosnia in 1999 / 2000.
The Stabilization Force (SFOR) was a NATO-led multinational peacekeeping force deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Bosnian war. SFOR operated under peace enforcement, not peacekeeping, rules of engagement. Although SFOR was led by NATO, several non-NATO countries contributed troops. The stated mission of SFOR was to "deter hostilities and stabilize the peace, contribute to a secure environment by providing a continued military presence in the Area Of Responsibility (AOR), target and coordinate SFOR support to key areas including primary civil implementation organizations, and progress towards a lasting consolidation of peace, without further need for NATO-led forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina". The Canadians were in the Banja Luka Multi-National Divisions (West) zone with the British, Czech, Dutch forces.
