Silver Cigarette Box (Lt Col. Leslie)
Silver Cigarette Box presented to Lt. Col. T. S. Leslie on 6 October 1939 on his passing over his command to Lt Col Stevenson in September 1939.
It is covered with Seaforth officers' signatures. One became a Major General, ten became Brigadiers, one a Colonel and two of whom became Lt Governors.
Total Decorations: VC x 1; DSO x 19; CB x 1; CBE x 3; OB x 1.
The photo shows the location of the cigarette box in the old museum in a Colin Stevens photo. It is on the bottom shelf on the extreme left.
Lt Col Thomas Soga Leslie, ED was veteran of the Great War and the inter-war year SH of C. He was the Commanding Officer from 1 October, 1938 to 1 September, 1939. He was 56 years old and deemed too old to command a battalion in wartime. Thus, command of the overseas battalion was to fall to Lt-Col. J. B. Stevenson, ED. He assumed command of the Regimental Depot.
