Monty's Visit to the 2nd Brigade, Militello, Sicily 20 August 1943
Monty's parade, Militello, Sicily 20 August 1943. This photo is in the regimental history.
From Dr. Roy's book, pages 205, 206:
"During the three-week stay in the area, there are certain days which will stand out especially in the memory of the Seaforths for one reason or another. The first, perhaps, was the visit of the Eighth Army Commander, General B. L. Montgomery. Some of the Seaforths remembered him from England, but since that time his leadership of the Eighth Army across North Africa had made him the most widely known general in the British Army. "Monty," as he was usually termed, arrived on 20 August to inspect the brigade. After a hot climb up the 1 ,000-foot hill to the Edmontons' area where the brigade was assembled, "Monty," carrying a horsetail fly switch instead of a swagger stick, had all ranks gather round his car. He exuded confidence, paid many compliments to the Canadians and welcomed them warmly to his command."
