2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders of Canada - Drumhead Service led by Padre Capt. J. D. Hobden at Gordon Head Camp, Vancouver Island on 11 June 1944.
CANADIAN MILITIA TRAINING CENTRE NO. 111. GORDON HEAD CAMP
The Gordon Head Camp was established in 1940 with huts built on the present University of Victoria Campus (west of Finnerty Road, where the tennis courts now stand) during the summer of 1940. Beginning in October 1940, the camp housed drafted trainees who were called up through the National Resources Mobilization Act passed in June 1940. The camp served as an officer training camp (1941-1943), a casualty retraining centre (1943-1945), a hospital examination and rehabilitation centre for POW's returning from Japan (1945-1946), a housing centre for returning veterans and their families (1946-1950), and during the 1950's housed various regiments connected with the Korean War. On 8 June 1959 the camp was sold to Victoria College which converted the huts into classrooms, administration buildings and cafeterias.
