Seaforth CWAC (Canadian Women's Army Corps) Rifle Team, 1973-74
Seaforth CWAC (Canadian Women's Army Corps) Rifle Team and Deane Freeman Trophy - Corporal Susan J.M. Parsons; Lieutenant Tammy L. Hinch (Nurse); Corporal Debbie D. Gamble; W.O. Ruth Thompson (Orderly Room Clerk), January 1974
Gord Croucher, Vancouver Province. On the outside of the photo is says "Sentinal Magazine".
The Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC) was a non-combatant branch of the Canadian Army for women established during the Second World War to release men from those non-combatant roles. Most women served in Canada but some served overseas, most in roles such as secretaries, mechanics, cooks and so on. The CWAC was finally abolished as a separate corps in 1964 when women were fully integrated into the Canadian Armed Forces.
Nevertheless, this photo proves that well into the mid 1970s, these women were still wearing CWAC uniforms.
