City view of Honolulu, Hawaii

Postcard - "H Hackfield & Co. Ltd." sign on building in foreground. Mountains are behind in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. H Hackfeld Co. Ltd. was established in Hawaii in the 1850's and apparently moved into the old court house (which explains the classical dome on the building). The H. Hackfeld and Company was founded by Germans Heinrich Hackfeld and his brother in law J.C. Pflueger in 1849. It was one of the Big Five companies in Hawaii. It owned 60,000 acres of land and was a dominant sugar company in Hawaii as well the founder of the Hackfield Department Store. It was seized by the US government during WWI as a German asset and sold to American Factors Inc in 1918. The company changed its name to Amfac in 1966. This postcard is in a blue binder labelled "2008.5 Re: Pte. Arthur Welch 231 & 72 Bns CEF" and "A0505.7 - 48".
