Kilt Apron, 72nd Bn (Pte McDonald)
Kilt Apron,This apron is attached to Pte Mcdonald's kilt [2011.013.004]. It is labelled "S" / W /1\ D" [War Department]. There is a pocket with button on the front.
It is not sure if it is actually his kilt or not. It has not been labelled with this accession number. It is on the WW I mannequin.
Kilt Aprons (covers) were worn by Highland regiments on active service. Not only did the apron protect the kilt but it also made the kilt less conspicous in the field. It is a brown canvas apron with tape tie in a seam at the top, a single button flap pocket in the centre (actng as a sporran).
