Red and green diced hose of the 236th (MacLean's Kilties, Sir Sam's Own) Battalion, CEF belonging to Pte Torry Estabrooks Purdy, # 1031320 who was later transfered to the 72nd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, CEF when the 236th was broken up for reinforcements in England. The hosetops have holes which have been darned. Purdy had originally enlisted with the 236th (MacLean's Kilties) Battalion, CEF as he was from Amherst, Nova Scotia. He arrived in France on 8 March 1918. He was wounded on 30 March, 1918 and again on 11 August, 1918. The 236th (The New Brunswick Kilties) Battalion, CEF was based in Fredericton, New Brunswick and Camp Valcartier. The unit began recruiting in the spring of 1916 throughout Canada and in New England, USA. After sailing to England in November 1917, the battalion was absorbed into the 20th Reserve Battalion, CEF in March, 1918. The 236th was also known as the "McLean Kilties of America" or "Sir Sam's Own".
