Seaforth Green ORs Coatee Tunic

Green (tailor made for) Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Other Ranks Coatee with gold sergeant stripes on the right arm with buff facings on the rear. It has a velcro neck fastener with curved SEAFORTH shoulder titles and six buttons on the front. The coatee was made by Moore, Taggart & Co. Ltd. (of Glasgow). A coatee is a type of tight fitting uniform jacket, which was waist length at the front and has short tails behind. The coatee originally replaced the long tail coat in western armies at the end of the eighteenth century, but was itself superseded by the tunic in the mid nineteenth century. The coatee still remains part of formal Highland dress.
