Seaforth Guard for Lt Col Blair for King's Prize at Bisley win, 25 Aug 1929.

Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Guard of Honour for Lt. Col. Robert Mills Blair, VD Commanding Officer, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, upon winning the King's Prize at Bisley, England for being the top rifleman in the British Empire, 25 August, 1929. The photo was taken at the Cambie Grounds, Vancouver. The Guard Commander is his son Captain David R. Blair. Colonel H.S. Tobin, DSO, VD Officer Commanding the 23rd Infantry Brigade and Major J.R.S. Lough, DSO, MC (in tartan breeches) are also reviewing the troops. David R. Blair went on to become city police commissioner and retired with the rank of colonel after commanding the 2nd Battalion of the Seaforths in WW II. His brother, J. W. Blair, a Seaforth company commander, spent two years in a German POW camp during World War II after being captured in Italy. From the Regimental History, page 30: "Lt-Col. R. M. Blair made history at Bisley by being the first man in seventy years to win both the King's Prize and the Grand Aggregate. The regiment, the city, indeed all Canadians were tremendously proud of his accomplishment and on his return in August he was given a huge welcome. Later that day a civic banquet was given in his honour followed by a dance given by the regiment. Special permission was given for the free issue to the Seaforth Officers' Mess of the rifle with which he won the Bisley match, and the new rifle range was named in his honour the following year. It was a glorious welcome home for a greatly admired officer." This photo is from the Scrapbook entitled "Historical Record of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada". It includes photos from 1912 to the 1950s. The author is unknown at this time.
