Corps des cadets de Seaforth
72nd Cadets at Hopkins Landing, 1938
72nd Seaforth Cadet Battalion inspection of the lines [quarters) at summer camp at Hopkins Landing [north of Gibsons, Sunshine Coast, BC] by Major E.A.S. Chowne, MM, [Cadet] Commanding Officer and Lieutenant Don Clark, his Second in Command and the Cadet RSM on 5 August 1938. They are at rear centre of the photo. In the left foreground is a man in civilian clothes and a glengarry. Beside him in trews and shirt sleeve order is Sergeant Major George Clapshew. In the right foreground is a sergeant in summer khaki drill uniform and forage cap.
The cadets are wearing blue jackets, in kilts (with aprons), glengarries, diced hose and white spats in front of white canvas bell tents. There are rucksacks at their feet. Some of the cadets (in the back) are wearing civilian clothes.
On the bottom of the photo: "LINE INSPECTION 72ND SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS CADET CAMP, HOPKINS LANDING 1938"
From Regimental History, page 524: "During the years 1936 to 1940, Capt. (later Major) E. A. S. Chowne, M.M., commanded the Cadets. It was during this period that the Cadet Corps grew in numbers and through its ranks there passed many Cadets trained and equipped to play a prominent part in the strife ahead. In the summers of 1938 and 1939 the Regiment sponsored a camp for the Cadets at Hopkins Landing. During the 1939 camp the Cadets were honoured by a visit by the Duchess of Sutherland, accompanied by many dignitaries."
On rear: "BC 15"
Postcard in a plastic protector.
