FOUNDATIONS OF THE 72nd REGIMENT, 1910-1914

Fondation du 72e régiment, 1910-1914

72nd Regt, Seaforth Band, Elysium Hotel on Pender Street, Vancouver, 1913
72nd Regiment, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Tug-o-War team, 1912

72nd Regiment, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Regimental (Brass) Band on the steps of the Elysium Hotel at 1142 Pender Street, Vancouver, 1913. The hotel was demolished in the 1970s and replaced by an office tower at 1130 West Pender Street, Vancouver. Bandmaster Henry Slatter is in the front rank of the band to the left of the bass drum with his baton. Henry Arthur Slatter was the bandmaster of the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders from 1911-1914 and again from 1919-1925. The Elysium Hotel opened on April Fool’s Day, 1911. The Elysium was a good building built in the wrong part of town. Located at 1140 West Pender, it was converted into suites by C.B.K. Van Norman in 1943 and renamed Park Plaza.
