231st BATTALION CEF (2nd RESERVE BATTALION)

231e BATAILLON CEF (2e BATAILLON DE RÉSERVE)

231st Bn men at the Cambie Grounds after a march, 1916 - 1917

Eleven soldiers of the 231st Battalion at the Cambie Grounds after a march. They are wearing service dress jackets, balmorals, kilts, kilt aprons and a type of Oliver Pattern leather equipment. Their rifles are piled behind them. NOTE: Behind the cap badges are round rosettes. In the background is the World Building at 500 Beatty Street (at Pender) and to the right is the Beatty Street Armoury. Construction of The Daily World's headquarters, The World Building (later renamed The Sun Tower), was completed in 1912. The building was designed to be seen throughout the newspaper's circulation area and was the tallest building in the British Empire at the time of completion.
