1/1st (City of London) Battalion (Royal Fusiliers) in Malta, 1914-1915. On rear: "Fred Denton right in the centre wth hat on back of head / F Company" The RF mobilzed on August 1914 : at Handel Street in Bloomsbury. Part of 1st London Brigade, 1st London Division. It moved on mobilisation to guarding the London-Newhaven railway. On 4 September 1914, the RF sailed with its Brigade from Southampton to Malta, arriving at Valetta on 14 September. The REgiment stayed until 11 February 1915 when it left Malta. It arrived at Avonmouth on 21 February. On 11 March 1915 The Royal Fusiliers landed at Le Havre and joined the 25th Brigade in 8th Division. They remained on the Western Front for the duration.
