SEAFORTHS IN WORLD WAR II
SEAFORTHS PENDANT LA DEUXIÈME GUERRE MONDIALE
Leather Wallet with zipper belonging to Captain Wilf Gildersleeve, MC WW II.
Leather Wallet with zipper belonging to Seaforth Signals Officer, Captain Wilf Gildersleeve, MC WW II. On the outside is stencilled his old regimental number (K3544_) when he was an enlisted man. Note: Officers were not issued service numbers until 1950.
Wilfrid F.J. Gildersleeve joined the Seaforths in Italy on 22 October, 1943 and left in Holland on 6 June 1945. He was wounded on 24 October, 1944. Gildersleeve had become so attached to the battalion that he had wrangled a transfer from the Signals Corps to the Seaforths as a platoon officer. During the Ortona Christmas dinner of 1943, the Signals Officer, Lieut. W. Gildersleeve, played the church organ and, with the aid of an improvised choir organized by the padre, carols rang throughout the church.
