Kilt Apron with the names of most of the Other Ranks of The 72nd Battalion, CEF who proceeded as reinforcements to the 16th Battalion, (The Canadian Scottish), CEF from Bramshott Camp, England on June 18, 1916. Ironically, the aprons states in ink: "No More Soldiering for me / 72nd Seaforth Highlanders / Vancouver / No. 8 (?) Draft". There is a cartoon of a Seaforth smoking a cigarette and a woman. Both are in profile. Note: The names are on the inside of the kilt apron. CONFIRM: THIS APRON MAY ONLY BE FROM ONE COMPANY OR PLATOON. THE PHOTOCOPIED 16TH BN DRAFT KILT APRON (2016.018.001 ) APPEARS TO HAVE ALL OF THE NAMES ON IT. From the Regimental History, page 20: "When June 18th - the anniversary of the battle of Waterloo came along, the Battalion was called upon to send a draft of 150 men to France - a striking commentary on the change that a century had wrought. The draft was chosen equally from "A" and "B" companies, [in Bramshott, England] and went to the 16th Battalion Canadian Scottish". From the Regimental History, pages 291 - 293, here is the Draft. Notice that they are all private soldiers: Of the 150 men who went to the 16th Battalion: 47 were killed in action or died of wounds; 115 were wounded in action; one was wounded accidentally and three were made Prisoners of War.
