EUROPE DU NORD-OUEST, MARS 1945-OCTOBRE 1945
Bulletin from the Seaforths to the Citizens of Amsterdam thanking them for being "our wonderful hosts", June 1945.
Bulletin from the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada to the Citizens of Amsterdam thanking them for being "our wonderful hosts", June 1945. In Dutch and English.
From the Regimental History, pages 442, 443:
"The saddest event in Amsterdam was the leaving of it. The Seaforths quarters had been very good, the people exceptionally kind, and the entertainment within the city available to all ranks had been such that frequently those who could go on furlough to London had second thoughts before accepting.
However, on 19 June [1945] the Seaforths were moved to the small rural village of Maartinsdijk,
located midway between Utrecht and Hilversum. It was a pleasant spot, somewhat like the south of England but flat, criss-crossed with dykes and water ditches, and with little local entertainment potential except for a nearby lake. Hilversum and Utrecht were not far away.
however, and there were numerous opportunities to send men away on leave, both to the United Kingdom and to such places as Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam".
