Captain Harold C. Gell, Signals Officer outside an English cottage, Tandridge, England1940. Captain Harold C Gell MM,ED served in the WW II Seaforths from 2 September 1939 until 18 February 1941. He was awarded the Military Medal in WW I for his actions with the 72nd Battalion. He also served in the Regiment after the Great War. From the regimental history, page 110: "The New Year came in cold and frosty with frequent snow and icy roads. It was to remain like that all during January and February, and so slippery were they at times that periodically motorcyclists were forbidden to take their machines on the roads. Accidents were numerous, and one seriously injured Captain H. C. Gell. He had served with the unit for years, but every month more and more of the old timers were leaving."
