SEAFORTHS IN WORLD WAR II

SEAFORTHS PENDANT LA DEUXIÈME GUERRE MONDIALE

Colonel G.S. Clark, OBE, ED, SH of C & 72nd Bn

Postcard - Colonel G.S. (George Savage) Clark, OBE, EM in WW II. He is wearing battledress and webbing smoking a cigarette. During his army career he was awarded the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), WW I British War Medal, WW I Allied Victory Medal, 1939 - 1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Voluntary Service Medal and overseas clasp and the Efficiency Decoration. These medals are in the Museum collection (1998.025.001). 1015047 Pte (later Acting Sgt) George Savage Clark originally enlisted in the 231st Battalion, CEF from the 72nd Regiment. Clark gave his occupation as science student. He transferred to the 72nd Battalion and arrived in France on 23 May 1917. He was returned to England on 8 August 1917 as a minor. Note in the Regimental History, there were about 23 other young men returned to England as minors. Clark was sent to the BC Regimental Depot at Seaford. He had also previously served in the 72nd Cadets. He served in the Seaforths between the wars as the adjudant in the 1930s. It also appears that Clark was in the process of transferring to the Royal Air Force on 2 September 1918 as a cadet. He is noted in RAF orders AIR76-1 and AIR 76/88/110. In the discharge papers, his rank is given as cadet and acting sergeant. CEF Service file attached.
