Firefight in the Medak Pocket

"Firefight in the Medak Pocket" by Katherine Taylor. Sergeant Rod Dearing engages the Croatian troops with a C-6 heavy machine gun, 13 September 1998. In this stylized print, MCpl Rob Deans is the soldier in the shell scrape on the extreme right. There is a UN M-113 in the background. On September 15, 1993, regular and reserve soldiers serving with C Company, 2 Platoon, 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and French units moved in to enforce a ceasefire around the Croatian village of Medak. They were attacked by the Croatian military. During the ensuing 15-hour firefight, the Canadians and French held their ground against the larger Croatian force. This print was received from Tony Speiss who was on Operation "Harmony" in 1993 with the 2 PPCLI Battle Group and served in the Battle of the Medal Pocket in September 1993.
