MOBILIZATION & DEPLOYMENT, 1939

MOBILISATION ET DÉPLOIEMENT, 1939

Lt H.T. Vicars before he was deployed to England, 14 December 1939

Lt Hugh Thomas Vicars from a group photo from the Vancouver Sun special edition featuring the members of the 1st Battalion, The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada who were deploying to England at the beginning of World War II. The article was called "All the King's Men" dated 14 December 1939. Lt. VICARS served in the SEaforths from 27 November 1939 to 16 Apruk 1942. In 1942 he was the Battalion QM. VICARS, Hugh Thomas, Captain - Member, Order of the British Empire - Infantry - awarded as per Canada Gazette dated 23 December 1944 and CARO/5235 dated 3 January 1945. As Quartermaster of No.10 Canadian Base Reinforcement Battalion since the date this unit was formed, this officer has performed his duties in a highly efficient manner, being extremely conscientious and a most willing worker. He landed in France on "D" Day with part of the battalion and carried on his work under most trying and difficult conditions. It was due to Captain Vicar's resourcefulness and energy that reinforcements for forward units were despatched on time and fully equipped to the complete satisfaction of the units receiving them. The excellent performances of this officer well deserve recognition.
