SEAFORTHS RETURN TO CANADA, 1945
LE RETOUR DES SEAFORTHS AU CANADA, 1945
Account of the Seaforth Homecoming to Vancouver on 6 Oct 1945 by Bob Hackett
An Account / Memoir of the Homecoming to Vancouver of the Seaforths on 6 October 1945. This recollection was for the 50th Anniversary of the return in 1995.
This account is by Bob Hackett:
"802 555 West 28th Street,
North Vancouver, B.C.
September 18,1995.
Dear Bob:
Memories fade but I will reflect upon what I do remember of the Seaforths returning fifty years ago. I was not on parade but I stood opposite the CPR Station on Cordova and saw Don Clark leading the parade and Pipe Major Essen in charge of the Band. The crowds were huge and there was much yelling and applause. They marched up Granville but I didn't follow them but somehow made it back to The Armoury and witnessed the dismissal. I do not know if Stan
Wellbum was on parade and perhaps you could give him a call at 263-7100 and get some information from him.
After the dismissal it was bedlam with wives and girl friends seeking out their mates. There were refreshments in the Armoury. However I was allergic to crowds and didn't stay too long. I am sorry I can't give you more information. Also ask George Campbell if he was in attendance at that parade.
Will see you in three weeks.
All the best,
Bob Hackett."
