SEAFORTHS RETURN TO CANADA, 1945

LE RETOUR DES SEAFORTHS AU CANADA, 1945

Account of the Seaforth Homecoming to Vancouver on 6 Oct 1945 by Jim Wingrove

An Account / Memoir of the Homecoming to Vancouver of the Seaforths on 6 October 1945. This recollection was for the 50th Anniversary of the return in 1995. This account is by Jim Wingrove: September 26, 1995 Jim Wingrove #215-2439 Wilson Ave., Port Coquitlam I was on the second section of the train. We were delayed at North Bend which made us late for the arrival in Vancouver. The conductor on the train was my neighbour in Port Coquitlam. He approached me on the train and informed me we would not be stopping in Port Coquitlam. In order to make up time wee broke speed records coming down The Valley. Seeing we made up time he informed me we would be stopping for a few moments, so the folks were able to greet me. In The Sun newspaper it quoted the “Old Steam Engine” came puffing and panting to the station CPR to a grinding halt. After marching from the station to the parade grounds at Seaforth Armouries we broke off and were asked to look for next of kin under our initial “W”. All hell broke loose as people deserted the stands except for my Dad who remained on the stands, so I found him. Jim Wingrove
