SEAFORTHS RETURN TO CANADA, 1945
LE RETOUR DES SEAFORTHS AU CANADA, 1945
Account of the Seaforth Homecoming to Vancouver on 6 Oct 1945 by Bill (Skull) Worton
An Account / Memoir of the Homecoming to Vancouver of the Seaforths on 6 October 1945. This recollection was for the 50th Anniversary of the return in 1995.
This account is by Bill (Skull) Worton:
September 25, 1995 PH #2 - 2528 E. Broadway, Vancouver, B.C.
Dear Bob;
As I had been home about three weeks I did not march with the boys that day. I had a feeling of great relief and j oy that at last the war was over and all my Brothers had returned. I also had a feeling of guilt because many of my close friends were left in England, Italy and Holland. As I joined in October 1939 and served through England, and the Landing in Sicily right up until the entry into Amsterdam. I got to know of a great many Seaforth Officers NCOs and other ranks. All were top people and I must say the finest bunch of men I had ever had the pleasure
to know. As you know many of us are still alive and that feeling of Brotherhood and friendship still remains to this day. I hope this short note gives you a little idea of what it was like 50 years ago.
Thankyou for asking for my thoughts.
Bill (Skull) Worton
