SEAFORTHS RETURN TO CANADA, 1945

LE RETOUR DES SEAFORTHS AU CANADA, 1945

Account of the Seaforth Homecoming to Vancouver on 6 Oct 1945 by Doug Stoneson

An Account / Memoir of the Homecoming to Vancouver of the Seaforths on 6 October 1945. This recollection was for the 50th Anniversary of the return in 1995. This account is by Doug Stoneson: September 25, 1995. D. Stoneson RR 1, Site 18, Comp 4, Madeira Park, B. C. VON-2H0 Dear Bob; When I first joined The Regiment in the spring of ‘43 I observed a group of guys who had been over there 3 1/2 years. They seemed to want into action and get it over with. The by-word then seemed to be let’s go over there kick their ass and go home Everyone seemed to say BOY! when we march up Granville Street that will be the happiest day of my life. So as we went on through the Italian Campaign and on to Holland and when things were at a low you would hear from time to time about marching up Granville Street and I was soon voicing these sentiments myself. I actually think this was a sort of vision or prayer that kept us going, and after all it really did come true. So here we are the happiest guys on earth. My only regret is for our Comrades who didn’t make it home. God bless them. Doug (Stoneson)
