Thomas Percival Elder - Correspondence 1916
Letter of June 18th, 1916 from Thomas Percival Elder to his brother Albert " Bert " James Elder of Ottawa Ontario.
Transcription:
Bramshot Camp June 18/16
Dear Bert,
I am sending you some films which I had developed and one print taken of each several were spoilt by a piece of paper getting stuck between the lens and the film. As you will see you can print what you feel like and then send them on to Jess. I sent the girl a print of each so you need not send her any.
We sent a draft of 150 men from A&B cos [companies] this morning and send another in the next few days. They won't allow any NCO to go either as a private or as an NCO. I paraded twice before our Company Commander and once before the adjutant but they would not allow me to revert and go. It means that I am separated from the boys I have been with so long as they are all going, only one being left in the section with myself. The drafts I believe are going direct to France but we are not sure.
I can't very well give you a
description of what [?] the films are, some are of the hut and members some of blanket tossing, some of yours truly as a washerwomoan, of the boat and its occupations on the way over, & en route in the trains. You will be able to pick them out pretty well. They are not an unqualified success as you see better luck next time.
It is getting dark around about 9:30 lights out at 9:45. I have been writing the girl and my fingers are cramped and my heart sore (do I see you & Flossie smile) so will quit and say good night with kind regards to yourself and Flossie. I am
Yours,
TP Elder
