Thomas Percival Elder - Correspondence 1917
Letter of April 11th, 1917 from Thomas Percival Elder to his brother Albert "Bert" James Elder of Ottawa Ontario.
Transcription:
Seaford
Dear Bert,
Here I am again in this camp and I cannot say that it appeals to one as it did when I first landed from France. Benhill was indeed good and we realized it then.
My application is in for the R.F.C. [Royal Flying Corps] and if I succeed in passing the rather stiff examination within two weeks + will have a chance of sprouting wings. It will also mean that I am in perfect physical condition. Eyesight is the only thing I am leery about. Murray is herein Seaford as well so we shall see quite a bit of each other until he leaves for France.
There is absolutely nothing new here. Murray seems to take kindlier to army life that he did when I saw him last and he is looking very well. He has also learnt very important things and those are to keep out of the limelight and be discreet. I am very comfortable and well fed there is only one thing Flossie need ever send and that is pie it certainly is good and comes in good shape. Sugar is scarce. That isn't a hint you know -just to save her trouble.
Your brother, Percy.
